Hand-carved wooden spoons for cooking and serving delicious meals.

Spoons are carved by hand from freshly-harvested Maine hardwoods. Using axe, saw and knife, I shape each spoon to be functional and pleasant to use. I am a big fan of spoons with flat and slanting fronts for their utility in scooping, scraping and stirring in pots and pans. Wooden spoons are equally functional working over the stove or serving food at the dining table. Spoons are finished with a food-safe tung oil & citrus oil mixture and cured prior to shipping.

This is a pre-order item. Your $10 deposit secures a slot on the winter pre-order list. The deposit is applied to the total cost and the balance will be billed via email invoice at the time of shipping.

NOTE: images show samples of past work. Grain orientation, coloration, and exact size and finish carving details will vary from one spoon to another based on the piece of wood selected.

You can select from 3 types of spoon options and 1 mystery option:

  • Cooking + Serving Spoon - $45 - a sturdy symmetrical spoon with a wide curved front. I fell in love with carving this spoon shape this fall and would love to make you some!

  • Stirring Spoon - $25 - a light and slender symmetrical spoon for stirring honey into your tea or serving sauces at the kitchen table.

  • Jar Spoon - $32 - a long handled spoon with a wide, nearly flat front. This spoon has a small bowl for reaching into jars and is a favorite of returning customers in the shop. Equally suited for getting the last of the jelly from the bottom of the jar as it is for cooking onions and peppers in the cast iron.

  • Mystery Cooking + Serving Spoon - $40-$55 - Let me play and create something extra unique for you! I love making a wide range of shapes and there is a lot of joy in the freeform design of each spoon. If you select this option, I’ll make you a cooking spoon in whatever shape I’m inspired to make in the moment. I love making spoons with asymmetrical bowls slanted to one side (to the right for right-handed cooks, to the left for left-handed cooks). If you have certain preferences you’d like to share to influence my whims, please state them in the Production Notes at checkout. For example, if you’d like the handle a little extra long or short, or if you definitely want a symmetrical or asymmetrical bowl, please let me know. “Slotted” cooking spoons with holes for straining liquid are also an option. I’ll make a spoon whose complexity and size fits within the $40-$55 price range and bill accordingly.

See the photo gallery of my carving process and the other images below to get a sense of how these spoons are made and the designs I create.

While I do make large bent-branch ladles from time to time and I understand some folks may be interested in one, I believe I already have all of the ladle commissions on my schedule that I can manage for this winter. Thanks for understanding.
