Hand-hewn bowls crafted in Maine-grown black cherry with adze, axe, gouge and knife. Wooden bowls are one of my very favorite goods to make. They are the project I get most lost in while crafting them. I love having these in my home, using them to store veggies and serve food to friends.

Hand-hewn bowls crafted in Maine-grown black cherry with adze, axe, gouge and knife. Wooden bowls are one of my very favorite goods to make. They are the project I get most lost in while crafting them. I love having these in my home, using them to store veggies and serve food to friends.
Hand-hewn bowls are a vessel that is common around the world and that spans a wide breadth of history. These bowl are inspired by Scandinavian bowl designs and traditional dough bowls. Carved with handles on either end and in a bark-surface-up grain orientation, the finished bowls show the concentric growth rings in the heart of the bowl and take on the characteristic, expressive curvature of the shape of the log from which they were carved. Bowls are hewn by hand from a 1/2 log section. Cared bowls often take me 8-20 hrs to complete depending on size and complexity. The work on each bowl is spread across several weeks, as the bowl is first ‘rough carved’, carefully dried, and finally ‘finish carved’ to give it it’s final shape and tool-finished surface.
This is a pre-order item. Your $20 deposit secures a slot on the winter pre-order list. The deposit is applied to the total cost and the balance will be billed via email invoice at the time of shipping.
NOTE: images show samples of past work. Grain orientation, coloration, and exact size and finish carving details will vary from one bowl to another based on the piece of wood selected and my own design choices.
Bowls are available in 2 general size groups, small and large. Prices vary depending on size and finishing details.
Small Bowls: $200-$275 - Approx. 10” x 5” x 3” +/- 2” in each dimension depending on the piece of wood
Large Bowls: $450-$600 - Approx. 16” x 9” x 5” +/- 2” in each dimension depending on the piece of wood
